About Microbus Driver

Microbus Driver puts you behind the wheel of a white Egyptian microbus on the Ramses to Al-Haram line, with the line's cardboard route card propped in the windscreen. Leave the stand at Ramses Station, head down Ramses Street and along Tahrir Street to the Pyramids Road and the Pyramids, then come back through Dokki, Mohandessin and Kit Kat to Shubra and Ghamra and the stand again. The streets are full of taxis, cars and tuk-tuks, and people in headscarves and gallabiyas wait on the pavement to wave you down.

Every stop has passengers: pull up by the kerb and they walk to the door, climb in and pay the fare, each going to a stop of their own. The board at the top shows the next stop, how many get off there and how many are waiting, a green circle marks the passengers and a blue one the drop-offs. Drive past someone's stop and they shout at you and it costs you. Call out the line's end like the real drivers, and more people come to the next stop.

You're not alone on the line, though: other microbuses race you to the same stops and take your passengers if they get there first. Overtake them and pull in ahead, and mind the traffic, because the passengers hate a bump. A shift lasts five minutes, every run to the end of the line pays a bonus, and your best shift is saved.

How to play

  1. Pull up by the kerb at a stop with a green circle so the passengers get on and pay.
  2. Watch the board at the top: the next stop and how many get off there.
  3. Stop in the blue circle so the passengers getting off reach their stop.
  4. Follow the arrow above the microbus to the end of the line, then turn round for the way back.
  5. Call out for passengers and beat the other microbuses to the stops.

Controls

KeyboardArrows or WASD to drive, C to call out for passengers, H for the horn, and Esc or P to pause.

Tips to win

  • Calling out brings one or two more people to the next stop, so call before you get there.
  • If the other microbus is ahead of you near a stop with people, overtake it and pull in first.
  • Passengers pay as they get on, so empty seats are money: let people off quickly to fit more in.
  • People wave you down between the stops too, and a microbus stops anywhere.

Microbus Driver: questions and answers

Is Microbus Driver free to play?

Yes, it's completely free and runs right in your browser, with no download and no sign-up.

Can I play it on my phone?

Yes. There are steering buttons on the left, gas and brake pedals on the right, and buttons for calling out and the horn. Most phones start on light graphics so the game stays smooth.

How is it different from Egypt Taxi?

Egypt Taxi is a taxi game where you take one passenger anywhere in Cairo. Microbus Driver runs a fixed line like the real ones: you carry a crowd, drop each passenger at their stop, and other microbuses race you for the passengers.

Are the line and its stops real?

The stop names come from real lines, like Ramses, El Esaaf, Dokki, Giza, Omraniya, Maryoutia, Al-Haram, Shubra and Ghamra, but the map is shrunk and rearranged to make a game, not a real map.

What age is Microbus Driver for?

It suits players from about 8 up, and adults. Cars bump and shove each other, with no serious crashes and no blood.
