About Counting Fun

Counting Fun is a gentle learning game for children from 3 to 6 that turns counting into something they love. It has 4 games: in Count, fruit, stars and cars appear and your child touches each one to light it up and hear its number, then picks the total from 3 big buttons. In More or Less there are two groups and your child picks the one with more, or fewer. In Feed the Animal a monkey asks for, say, 4 bananas and your child puts exactly that many into the basket.

The fourth game, Learn Numbers, is a board from 0 to 20: tap any number to see it big, hear it read aloud and see that many things next to it, so children connect the shape of a number with its name and its amount. Questions are read out loud and shown with pictures, so no reading is needed.

Every game has 3 levels: 1 to 5 for the youngest, 1 to 10, and 1 to 20 for older kids. A round is 10 questions with no timer and no losing: a wrong answer gets a gentle wiggle and the right answer lights up, and at the end your child earns stars for the answers that were right the first time. Stars are saved, so they can come back to collect all three.

How to play

  1. Choose a level: 1 to 5, 1 to 10 or 1 to 20.
  2. Choose a game: Count, More or Less, Feed the Animal or Learn Numbers.
  3. In Count, touch each thing once while counting out loud, then pick the number.
  4. In Feed the Animal, put the number of treats the animal asks for into the basket and press Done.
  5. Finish the 10 questions to earn your stars, and play again to collect all 3.

Controls

KeyboardWhen choosing a number, press 1, 2 or 3 for the first, second or third button; in More or Less, press 1 or 2 for a group.
MouseClick the things to count them, then click the right number. In Feed the Animal, drag the food into the basket or just click it.
TouchTouch each thing as you count, then touch the right number. Drag food into the basket, or tap it and it hops in by itself.

Tips to win

  • Let your child count out loud while touching each thing; it teaches that every thing gets exactly one number.
  • Stay on 1 to 5 until your child earns 3 stars, then move up a level.
  • In More or Less, ask how they knew, and count both groups together.
  • Use Learn Numbers as a quick bedtime review of the numbers 0 to 20.

Counting Fun: questions and answers

What age is this counting game for?

It suits children from 3 to 6. The 1 to 5 level is for preschool, 1 to 10 for pre-K and 1 to 20 for kindergarten and first grade. No reading is needed because the questions are read aloud and shown with pictures.

What happens if my child gets it wrong?

There is no losing and no harsh sound. The wrong choice wiggles gently and the right answer lights up, then the game carries on. Stars at the end count the answers that were right the first time.

Does it also teach Arabic numerals?

The Arabic version shows every number in Eastern Arabic digits next to the Western ones, so children learn both shapes they will see at school.

Is it free, and does it work on phones?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up or download, it works on phones, tablets and computers, and stars are saved on your device.
