Times Tables

About Times Tables

Times Tables turns learning the multiplication tables into a game instead of a chore. It covers every table from 2 to 12, each one from ร—1 to ร—12, and has four ways to play: Learn, Practise, Race and My Weak Facts.

In Learn, every fact is drawn as rows of dots, so 7 ร— 4 really looks like 4 rows of 7, next to the skip-counting line (7, 14, 21โ€ฆ) that helps it stick. In Practise you answer 10 questions on one table, either picking from 4 buttons or typing the answer yourself, and earn up to 3 stars per table, saved on the table grid.

In the Race you have one minute, and every right answer lifts a rocket closer to the moon, with your best score saved. The game also remembers every fact you get wrong, and My Weak Facts drills exactly the ones you find hardest, like 7 ร— 8 or 6 ร— 9. Wrong choices are close to the real answer (48 and 63 next to 56), so children have to think rather than guess.

How to play

  1. Choose a way to play: Learn, Practise, Race or My Weak Facts.
  2. For Learn and Practise, pick a table from the 2 to 12 grid.
  3. Read the sum, then tap the right answer or type it on the number pad and press โœ”.
  4. If you get one wrong, the game shows the right answer so you remember it next time.
  5. Collect 3 stars on every table and try to land the rocket on the moon in the Race.

Controls

KeyboardType the answer with the number keys: it is sent by itself when it matches a button, or press Enter in typing mode. Backspace deletes a digit, and the arrow keys step through the facts in Learn mode.
MousePick a table from the grid, then click the right answer out of four buttons or on the number pad.
TouchTap the table you want and the right answer. The buttons are big and easy to hit on phones and tablets.

Tips to win

  • Start with the easy tables, 2, 5 and 10, then 3 and 4, and leave 7 and 8 for last.
  • Multiplication works both ways: 3 ร— 8 is the same as 8 ร— 3, so every table you learn makes the next one easier.
  • In the 9 table the tens go up by one while the ones go down by one (9, 18, 27, 36โ€ฆ).
  • A few minutes of My Weak Facts every day beats one long study session.

Times Tables: questions and answers

What age is this times tables game for?

It suits children from about 7 to 11. Younger ones can start with Learn and the dot pictures, while older kids can challenge themselves in the Race.

How can I see which tables my child finds hard?

Open My Weak Facts. The game keeps track of right and wrong answers for every fact on this device, shows the accuracy for each table and drills the facts your child misses most.

Can my child type the answer instead of choosing?

Yes. A button at the top switches between four choices and a number pad for typing the answer, which is harder and better for memory. On a computer they can simply type on the keyboard.

Is the game free?

It is completely free with no sign-up and no download. Stars, best scores and weak facts are only saved on your own device.
